🎮 Ubisoft Cancels Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake

Prince of Persia

Company restructuring leads to studio closures, project cancellations, and strategic changes.

Ubisoft has officially canceled the development of the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake, a project that had been in progress for several years. This decision comes as part of a broader company restructuring aimed at streamlining operations, enhancing creative output, and focusing on long-term growth.

The remake, which was highly anticipated by fans, had faced multiple delays and had been transferred between different internal development teams. Ubisoft explained that releasing the game in its current state would not meet the high standards expected by players. Rather than rushing a release, the company chose to halt development and focus on quality for future projects.

This decision is part of a larger slate of changes at Ubisoft. The company has announced the closure or reshaping of multiple studios, alongside layoffs affecting hundreds of employees worldwide. Additionally, six ongoing projects, including several unannounced games and a mobile title, have been canceled, while the release of seven other games has been delayed to allow teams to reallocate resources more efficiently.

Ubisoft is also reorganizing its corporate structure into five distinct “Creative Houses”, each focused on specific genres and franchises. The company believes this new model will improve collaboration, speed up decision-making, and enhance the quality of its games. Employees will also return to a five-day in-office work week, with limited remote allowances.

Despite the cancellation of the remake, Ubisoft reassured fans that the Prince of Persia franchise remains important. Future projects in the series may be developed under the new creative structure, although no specific release timeline has been provided.

The cancellation highlights the challenges of modernizing classic games. While fans may be disappointed, Ubisoft’s focus on quality over rushing releases reflects a commitment to delivering polished experiences in the long term.
